CHAPTER 2 The House Built on Fear

After finishing the calls, Alexander walked downstairs where Noah and Liam sat huddled together beneath blankets in the kitchen.
The boys immediately flinched when they saw him.
That tiny reaction broke his heart.
"I saw the cameras," he whispered, kneeling beside them.
Liam looked terrified.
"Are... are you mad at us?"
Alexander hugged both boys tightly.
"I could never be angry with you."
Then Noah quietly revealed the truth that haunted him every day.
"Mom said if we told you... Lily would go to jail forever."
Alexander promised both children that Lily had done nothing wrong and that he would bring her home.
Moments later, police officers, Alexander's attorney, and a child welfare investigator arrived at the mansion.
Caroline tried one final desperate trick.
She ran toward the officers, accusing Alexander of threatening her and trying to take the children away.
But Alexander calmly handed over the security footage.
Inside his office, everyone watched Caroline hide the jewelry inside Lily's backpack, make the false emergency call, and repeatedly lock the boys inside the dark closet.
When the final video ended, the room fell silent.
The lead officer slowly placed handcuffs around Caroline's wrists.
She was arrested for evidence tampering, filing a false police report, child endangerment, and unlawful restraint.
As she was escorted from the mansion, she glared at Alexander with hatred.
"You'll regret this."
Alexander answered quietly.
"You did this to our children."

Later that evening, he learned Lily had been released from jail after every charge against her was dismissed.
He drove straight to the police station.
