Chapter 1: The Champion's Mockery

The Arizona shooting range buzzed with excitement as competitors and spectators gathered for the National Championship. Standing proudly at the entrance was Ryan Cole, the three-time defending champion, surrounded by sponsors, cameras, and admirers. When an elderly man in a worn brown jacket arrived carrying nothing but a faded cloth bag, Ryan stopped him before he could reach the firing line.
"Are you here to shoot, old timer, or did you wander in looking for spare change?"
Laughter spread through the crowd. The old man remained calm, quietly explaining that he was registered to compete. His wrinkled registration form was dismissed, dropped into the dirt, and treated like trash. Security guards stepped forward while spectators filmed the humiliation, convinced they were witnessing an old man who had wandered into the wrong place.
Only one person watched differently.
A retired veteran named Marcus Hale couldn't take his eyes off the stranger. It wasn't the torn jacket or the worn boots that caught his attention. It was the man's posture. Even with trembling hands and silver hair, he stood like someone who had spent a lifetime facing danger without fear.
Ryan continued mocking him, calling his old cloth bag garbage and questioning whether his shaking hands could even hold a rifle. Still, the old man never argued. He simply asked for one chance.

"I only need one shot."
Amused by the confidence, Ryan agreed, convinced the old man was about to embarrass himself in front of the entire championship.
