CHAPTER 2: THE SHOT THAT SHOOK THE RANGE

THE JANITOR WHO OUTSHOT THE CHAMPION
The range fell silent.
Elena raised the pistol.
One breath.
Two breaths.
BANG.
The shot cracked through the air.
Moments later, officials confirmed it.
Dead center.
The crowd erupted.
Rachel's smile disappeared.
Before anyone recovered, Elena turned toward a tiny steel target far beyond the normal competition distance.
A target most shooters never attempted.
Rachel felt her stomach drop.
BANG.
The steel plate rang loudly.
Direct hit.
Now nobody was laughing.
The janitor had just performed a shot many professionals couldn't make.
Rachel demanded an exhibition challenge.
Three shots.
Three targets.
Three chances to expose Elena.
Instead, Elena fired three perfect center hits with an old defective pistol that pulled left.
The crowd exploded into applause.
Rachel stood frozen.
For the first time in years, she realized someone standing in front of her was simply better.
Then a black SUV rolled through the front gate.
A gray-haired man stepped out.
The moment he saw Elena, he stopped.
His expression changed instantly.

And in front of the entire range, he said words that made everyone forget the competition.
“We've been looking for her.”
