CHAPTER 2: THE SHOOTER WHO WOULDN'T BREAK

The first qualification round started exactly as everyone expected.

Logan Hayes was brilliant.

Target after target fell.

The crowd erupted when he finished with a perfect score.

The announcer shouted his name.

Fans cheered.

Then lane seven fired.

Evelyn's rifle barely moved.

No flashy motions.

No dramatic celebration.

Just clean precision.

One shot.

Then another.

Then another.

Steel rang across the arena.

Moments later, the scoreboard flashed.

PERFECT SCORE.

The crowd fell strangely quiet.

Logan turned his head.

For the first time all day, he looked directly at Evelyn.

The next round produced the same result.

And the round after that.

The jokes slowly faded.

Whispers replaced laughter.

People began noticing how calm she was.

How she never celebrated.

How every movement looked practiced.

Almost familiar.

Meanwhile, Chairman Arthur Bennett watched from the officials' box.

Several times his eyes drifted toward the small star-shaped birthmark on Evelyn's wrist.

Something about it bothered him.

May you like

Something buried deep in his memory.

But he couldn't yet remember why.
