CHAPTER 1 The Boy Who Looked Exactly Like Him

The morning rush in Manhattan moved like it always did. Yellow taxis rolled past the crowded sidewalks while people hurried to work without looking twice at the faces around them. Emily Carter walked through the crowd holding her ten-year-old son Ethan's hand, expecting nothing more than another ordinary day.
Then Ethan suddenly stopped.
"Mom... that kid..."
Emily barely looked up at first. But when she followed his gaze toward a street pole near the curb, her entire world froze.
A barefoot boy sat quietly against the concrete, wearing a faded hoodie that hung loosely over his thin frame. His knees were bruised, his face dirty, and he looked no older than Ethan.
Then the homeless boy slowly lifted his head.
Emily forgot how to breathe.
He had Ethan's eyes.
The same jawline.
The same smile hidden beneath years of hardship.
It was like staring at the same child living two completely different lives.
Ethan stepped closer, unable to understand what he was seeing.
"He... he looks exactly like me."
The homeless boy slowly stood up. He didn't ask for money or food. Instead, he carefully removed an old silver locket from around his neck, as though he had carried it his entire life waiting for this exact moment.
Without saying a word, he handed it to Ethan.
Inside were two tiny photographs of newborn babies.
Below them, engraved in faded letters, were the words:
"To our twin sons."
Ethan's hands began shaking.
He slowly looked toward his mother.
"Mom... what does this mean?"
Emily's sunglasses slipped down her face as tears filled her eyes.
Her lips trembled.
"That... that can't be..."
May you like
Then the barefoot boy looked directly at her and quietly whispered a single word.
"Mother?"
