CHAPTER 3 The Brothers Found Each Other

Emily slowly dropped to her knees on the cold Manhattan sidewalk. She didn't care about the traffic, the strangers staring, or the expensive clothes getting dirty. She reached toward the homeless boy carefully, giving him every chance to step away if he wanted.

He didn't.

For the first time in his life, someone touched his face with the tenderness of a mother.

"I wanted you," Emily whispered through tears. "I just never knew where to look."

Beside her, Ethan looked at the barefoot boy again. Only moments earlier he had seen a stranger. Now he saw someone who shared his face, his smile, and his blood.

He took a slow step forward.

The homeless boy instinctively flinched.

Instead of pulling away, Ethan gently touched his sleeve.

"You're really my brother?"

The boy's lips trembled.

"I think so."

Neither of them knew what to say after that.

One had grown up surrounded by warmth, security, and opportunity.

The other had survived cold sidewalks, empty stomachs, and years of believing he had been abandoned.

Yet standing side by side, they looked almost identical.

Emily wrapped both boys in her arms, crying harder than she ever had before. She silently promised herself that she would uncover the truth behind the lie that had stolen her son and make the people responsible answer for it.

As the busy city continued moving around them, the reunited family remained frozen in that moment.

One brother wearing polished shoes.

The other standing barefoot on the cold pavement.
