CHAPTER 2 The Man Who Finally Spoke Up

The laughter continued until another figure quietly stepped forward.

A tall, broad-shouldered biker wearing a black leather vest had witnessed everything from only a few feet away. Without raising his voice, he walked directly toward the three young men.

The smiles slowly disappeared.

"Aren't you ashamed of yourselves?" he asked.

One of the boys tried to laugh.

"What's it to you?"

The biker looked him straight in the eyes.

"It matters because this man didn't lose his leg doing something foolish."

He pointed respectfully toward the veteran.

"He lost it protecting people like you."

Silence spread across the bus stop.

The biker explained that while the boys spent their afternoons chasing attention and making jokes, veterans like the old man had once carried wounded soldiers through enemy fire, risking their own lives so others could return home.

"And now," he continued, "the strongest man here is the one saying nothing."

The boys no longer laughed.

One looked at the sidewalk.

Another nervously shoved his hands into his pockets.

The third quietly muttered,

"We were only joking."

The biker answered immediately.

"No."

May you like

"That wasn't a joke."

"That was disgrace."
