CHAPTER 1: THE WAITRESS WHO FED TWO HUNGRY BROTHERS

Winter had settled over the city with a bitter cold that seemed to freeze compassion as much as the streets.

On a quiet sidewalk, two young brothers sat wrapped in a thin blanket, trying to ignore the ache of empty stomachs.

Pedestrians hurried past.

Some avoided eye contact.

Others acted as though the children weren't there at all.

The older brother, Ethan, kept his little brother Noah close, pretending everything would be alright even though he had no idea where their next meal would come from.

Then a waitress stopped.

She knelt beside them with two steaming plates of food and a warm smile.

"We don't have any money," Ethan said quickly, pulling Noah behind him.

The waitress gently shook her head.

"I wasn't asking for any."

The boys ate their first hot meal in days.

Before returning to work, she looked at Ethan and made him a promise to carry for the rest of his life.

"When you grow up... help someone who's having a hard day too."

May you like

Ethan quietly nodded.

Neither of them realized that one simple act of kindness had just changed the course of their lives forever.
