CHAPTER 1 The Billionaire's Cruel Bet

Emma Carter had spent the last three months cleaning one of the most exclusive private shooting clubs outside Austin. Every morning she mopped polished concrete floors, collected empty shell casings, and quietly stayed out of the members' way. Most of the wealthy guests never bothered to learn her name. To them, she was simply part of the furniture.
That morning was different.
Richard Hayes, the club's richest member, decided to entertain his friends by humiliating the quiet janitor. Sliding his expensive handgun across the table, he smiled as the crowd gathered around.
"Pick it up."
Emma remained calm, her hands resting on the broom.
"I'm working."
The answer only amused Richard. He mocked her clothes, her job, and her place in the club while guests laughed and recorded everything with their phones. Then he offered a cruel challenge.
"One bullet. Hit the bullseye, and I'll marry you."
More laughter filled the range. Richard knew the bet was impossible. He expected Emma to refuse or embarrass herself in front of everyone.
Instead, Emma slowly leaned her broom against the wall and stepped toward the table. Before touching the pistol, she asked that everyone remain behind the safety line. Her confidence made several guests exchange nervous glances.
She picked up the handgun with practiced hands.
The range officer immediately noticed her flawless grip, perfect trigger discipline, and controlled breathing. Richard noticed it too, but convinced himself it meant nothing.
Emma waited for the wind to settle before raising the pistol toward the distant target.
The entire range held its breath.
One shot echoed across the Texas morning.
Seconds later, the target camera confirmed what nobody thought possible.

The bullet had landed perfectly in the center of the bullseye.
Silence replaced every laugh.
