Chapter 18 - The Final Confrontation
The rain poured down on the empty streets of Manhattan, washing away the grime of the city.
Elena walked out of the corporate tower, flanked by her security detail, ready to head home to her family.
Suddenly, a figure stepped out from the shadows of the parking garage, looking completely deranged.
It was Julian, soaking wet, his eyes wild and desperate.
The security guards immediately drew their weapons, forming a protective wall around Elena.
"Wait," Elena commanded, raising a hand to stop them.
She stepped forward, looking at the man she had once vowed to spend her life with.
"I have nothing left, Elena," Julian sobbed, falling to his knees on the wet concrete.
"Victoria's creditors are coming after me for the legal fees, my father cut me off completely, and I am going to be homeless."
He reached out his hands, begging for mercy from the woman he had mercilessly destroyed.
"Please, Elena, just give me a million dollars, just enough to leave the country and start over."
Elena looked down at him, feeling absolutely nothing.
There was no anger, no pity, and no lingering sadness.
He was simply a stranger, a pathetic ghost clinging to a past that no longer existed.
"You made your choices, Julian," she said, her voice completely devoid of emotion.
"You chose Chloe, you chose greed, and you chose to try and steal my son."
"I will not give you a single cent of Leo's money."
Julian wept bitterly, burying his face in his hands as the rain soaked through his thin sweater.
"I will, however, give you this," Elena said, pulling a plain white envelope from her purse and dropping it onto the ground in front of him.
Julian ripped it open, finding a one-way economy plane ticket to a small, remote town in South America, and a prepaid debit card with five thousand dollars on it.
"That is my final act of charity towards you," Elena stated, turning her back on him.

"If I ever see your face again, I will let my lawyers destroy what is left of your miserable life."
She walked to her car, leaving Julian kneeling in the puddles, finally understanding the true cost of his arrogance.
