Chapter 101 - Awakening of the Hive

The pneumatic seals hissed in unison, a chorus of pressurized gas expelling into the damp harbor air. Naomi felt the deck vibrate beneath her boots as thirty-two vertical glass cylinders hissed open, green bioluminescent fluid cascading over the rusted steel floorboards. Inside each vessel, identical figures clad in spotless gray aprons stepped out. Their skin was pale, devoid of sunburn or blemish, and their pupils dilated to impossible obsidian voids under the amber glare of the floodlights.
"Generation Nine... batch dispersal," Bravo choked out, her blood pooled around her broken collarbone, her mouth smiling with morbid satisfaction. "You were only the prototype, Naomi. The original mold. But what happens when the factory produces an army?"
Naomi did not waste breath answering. She swung her tactical baton, catching the nearest emerging operative in the jaw with brutal, calibrated efficiency. The woman collapsed without a sound—no cry of agony, no reflexive groaning. That absolute silence was more terrifying than any battle cry. The other thirty-one figures turned their heads in mechanical synchrony, locking their hollow gazes onto Naomi.
"Vanessa, respond," Naomi barked into the transmitter pinned to her collar, sidestepping a dual lunging attack from two operatives who moved with the exact speed and biomechanics she had possessed during her years in the Iron Guard. "Vanessa, do you have eyes on the safe room?"
Static crackled violently. The storm overhead had unleashed a downpour that mingled with the harbor's brackish mist. Through the receiver, distant gunfire echoed against marble walls, followed by the sound of shattering porcelain.
"Naomi! They’re inside the west wing!" Vanessa's voice was frayed, stripped of all aristocratic arrogance, reduced to pure animal survival. "Mother barricaded herself in the library, but Mr. Henderson—the head butler—he smashed through the mahogany doors with a fire axe. His eyes... Naomi, they aren't human! He took two rounds from Father’s hunting rifle and didn’t even flinch!"
"Listen to me carefully," Naomi ducked beneath a synchronized throat strike, driving her steel-capped elbow upward into an operative's solar plexus, pivoting instantaneously to sweep the legs out from under another. "The neural carrier wave operates on low-frequency broadcast. It hijacks the micro-implants embedded in the domestic staff across the eastern seaboard. If they breach the doors, use salt-water solutions or high-voltage lines. Short out the cervical nodes behind their left ears!"
A bare hand lunged from the shadows, fingers hardened into spearheads of bone and sinew. Naomi raised her forearm to block, but the kinetic force behind the strike pushed her backward three feet across the slick metal grating. These were not the sluggish trainees she had dismantled months ago; these were fully integrated vessels executing Code Nine without psychological friction.
Bravo’s mocking laughter rose over the rain. "You can't save them all, sister! Whitmore House is already burning! The entire city belongs to the Patriarch now!"

Naomi drew her sidearm, empty casing clattering against the hull as she fired three precise rounds into the satellite emitter's secondary transformer, plunging the cargo deck into strobing emergency crimson. "Then I'll burn the city to the ground before I let him have it."
