Chapter 106 - The Alpha Directive

The air in the vault grew impossibly heavy. Vanessa backed away, staring at the screen in pure disbelief. "No... that's a lie. I was born in St. Jude’s Hospital. I have my birth certificate—"
"A birth certificate is paper, child," Arthur said coldly. "Naomi was the prototype of the Iron Guard, the physical peak. But every army requires a commander who can walk in daylight, undetected by security agencies, accepted by foreign dignitaries, completely unaware of her own trigger mechanisms until the hour arrives."
Arthur tapped a sequence of keys on his datapad. A sharp, high-pitched acoustic tone pulsed through the vault speakers.
Naomi’s instincts screamed. "Vanessa, cover your ears!"
It was too late.
Vanessa froze instantly. The trembling in her hands ceased. Her posture straightened, the terror on her face vanishing, replaced by a smooth, terrifyingly serene expression. Her brown eyes shifted, pupils widening into empty obsidian pools, identical to the operatives Naomi had fought on the cargo ship.
"Directive Alpha acknowledged," Vanessa said. Her voice was stripped of emotion, hollow and crystalline.
"Take Naomi’s weapon," Arthur commanded, stepping back into the shadows of the server bank. "Eliminate the defective prototype."
Vanessa did not hesitate. Moving with an unnatural, explosive velocity that defied her slender frame, she closed the distance between them in the blink of an eye. Her hand shot forward, fingers locked in a lethal nerve-strike aimed straight at Naomi's windpipe.
Naomi threw her arm up in an instinctual block. The force of Vanessa’s strike cracked through Naomi's forearm guard, the kinetic energy driving her back against the steel wall.
"Vanessa, fight it!" Naomi shouted, ducking beneath a lightning-fast spinning back kick that dented the reinforced steel bulkhead where her head had been a fraction of a second earlier.

Vanessa didn't blink. Her hands moved in the deadly, circular patterns of the Iron Guard's most lethal hand-to-hand discipline—techniques that took decades of brutal training to master, now flowing effortlessly from a woman who had never spent a single day in a gymnasium.
