Chapter 47 - Depth Charge

Marcus swung the heavy wrench toward Clara's head, driven by pure, unhinged spite.
Ethan moved instinctively, throwing his body over his sister. The wrench struck Ethan across the shoulder, driving him to his knees with a gasp of pain. Marcus raised the wrench for a second, lethal strike.
He never brought it down.
Naomi arrived like a phantom through the rain. Her hand shot out, catching Marcus’s wrist mid-swing with the exact same iron grip she had used on Vanessa in the grand ballroom of Whitmore House weeks ago.
Marcus froze, his wild eyes meeting the dead, cold calm in Naomi's gaze.
"You..." Marcus wheezed, his fingers trembling against the immovable force of her grip. "You were just a tool... Julian built you to serve..."
"Julian gave me an order," Naomi said, her voice barely louder than the storm, yet piercing directly into Marcus's soul. "He told me to protect what mattered."
With a brutal twist, Naomi snapped Marcus's wrist. The wrench fell into the darkness below. Marcus opened his mouth to scream, but Naomi drove her palm into the center of his chest, fracturing his sternum and knocking the breath from his lungs.
She didn't kill him; she simply let go.
Marcus lost his footing on the slick, steep deck and slid down the forty-five-degree slope, clawing desperately at the wet metal until he tumbled over the edge, swallowed entirely by the roaring Atlantic swells.
"Ethan, Clara, into the capsule!" Naomi shouted, wrenching the release mechanism with her bare hands. The iron gears shrieked, resisting her strength, until she jammed the barrel of her captured MP7 into the cog and pulled with her full body weight.
The mechanical tooth snapped. The release arm dropped.
"Get inside!" Naomi shoved Ethan and Clara through the small round hatch of the orange survival capsule.

"Naomi, get in!" Ethan yelled, holding out his hand from inside the pod. "There's room for three!"
Through the storm, the drone of the third gunship was growing louder. Red laser beams sliced through the driving rain, painting the orange capsule from high above.
