Chapter 110 - The Unseen Signal

The explosions rocked the foundations of Whitmore House as Naomi, Vanessa, and the restrained patriarch burst out through the service exit into the rain-drenched gardens. Behind them, the subterranean levels caved in with a dull, subterranean roar, swallowed by fire and collapsing concrete.

The rain had washed the smoke from the night sky, but Philadelphia was far from peaceful. Across the horizon, sirens wailed continuously. Black smoke plumed from several downtown power stations where the carrier broadcast had wreaked havoc among the city's domestic networks.

Police cruisers and emergency vehicles were beginning to swarm the perimeter of the estate, their red and blue flashers painting the wet trees in strobing neon.

Vanessa stood in the downpour, clutching her soaked jacket around her shoulders, looking at the ruins of her family estate. "It's over... isn't it?"

Naomi stood beside her, her tactical radio silent for the first time in hours. Arthur lay handcuffed on the wet grass, staring up at the stormy sky with a strange, unnerving silence.

Then, Naomi’s tactical radio didn't crackle—it clicked.

A frequency that should not exist—an analog band abandoned fifty years ago—began humming directly through Naomi’s earbud.

"Unit 09," an unfamiliar voice spoke. It was deep, calm, and utterly devoid of static, speaking with an aristocratic British accent that sounded far older, far more dangerous than Arthur Sterling. "You performed admirably. The field test in Philadelphia has concluded with ninety-four percent predictive accuracy."

Naomi stiffened, her hand instantly going to her receiver. "Who is this?"

Arthur Sterling, lying on the grass, began to laugh—a broken, hysterical cackle that mingled with the thunder. "You thought... you thought I was the Architect? You fool... I was only the investor..."

The voice on the radio continued smoothly: "Arthur was merely the custodian of Sector Four, Naomi. You destroyed a branch, but the tree spans across London, Tokyo, and Geneva. And now that you have successfully awakened Subject Alpha, the true game may finally commence. Look to the skies above New York, child."

Before Naomi could demand an answer, the entire northern horizon lit up with a blinding flash of emerald light, followed by a seismic tremor that shook the ground beneath their feet.
