Chapter 102 - The Siege of Whitmore House

Rain hammered against the stained-glass skylights of Whitmore House, turning the opulent chandeliers into fractured prisms of light. In the Grand Salon, where just months ago high-society aristocrats had sipped champagne while looking down upon the silent servants, terror reigned supreme.
Vanessa Sterling crouched behind an overturned ebony sideboard, her hands trembling as she reloaded her father’s engraved silver revolver. Across the hall, the silence was suffocating. There were no screams anymore—only the measured, rhythmically synchronized footsteps of twelve domestic workers advancing across the marble.
"Vanessa, dear... please open the door," a voice called out. It belonged to Martha, the elderly housekeeper who had baked pastries for Vanessa since childhood. But the cadence was completely flat, devoid of its usual warmth, sounding like a playback recording played at slightly lowered speed. "The Master requires full inventory of the bloodline. Compliance ensures preservation."
"Stay back, Martha!" Vanessa shouted, her knuckles white. "I swear to God, I'll shoot!"
The double doors groaned as an unnatural force pushed against the iron deadbolts. A hairline fracture appeared along the solid oak frame. Vanessa had spent her entire life believing wealth and social standing were impenetrable armor. Now, watching the wooden splintering under the cold pressure of women she had once regarded as invisible furniture, she realized how fragile her universe truly was.
A loud crash shook the corridor. A silver tray was thrust through the cracked wood, followed by a pale, slender hand that reached around to undo the security latch.
Vanessa squeezed the trigger.
The recoil bucked against her wrists. The bullet splintered the doorframe, grazing the arm. Blood welled, bright crimson against the pristine gray linen of the sleeve, but the hand did not pull back. It didn't even twitch. The fingers methodically unlocked the bolt, sliding the brass latch with steady precision.
The doors swung wide. Standing in the foyer were Martha, two parlor maids, and the family chauffeur. All of them wore the same placid, empty expression, their eyes tracking Vanessa with terrifying unanimity.
"Target identified: Sterling heiress," Martha stated, stepping forward.
From behind them, an engine roared. A heavy off-road vehicle smashed straight through the ballroom’s towering French doors, sending crystalline glass showering across the parquet floors like diamonds. The vehicle skidded sideways, tires smoking against the polished floor, before coming to a halt directly between Vanessa and the advancing staff.
The driver’s side door kicked open. Naomi stepped out into the ruined ballroom, tactical harness dripping with rain and harbor grime, her eyes burning with lethal clarity.

"Step away from the heiress," Naomi said softly.
