Chapter 49 - The Ghost Frequencies

Three miles out from the coordinates of the sunken rig, the storm began to abate, replaced by a dense, freezing sea fog.
The orange survival capsule drifted steadily, its emergency beacon flashing a dull amber rhythm against the black waves. Inside, Ethan sat with his arm wrapped tightly around Clara, watching the small porthole with hollow, exhausted eyes.
Suddenly, a wet thump echoed against the exterior access ladder.
Ethan stiffened, raising the Sig Sauer with his uninjured hand, his finger poised on the trigger.
The external hatch handle slowly turned from the outside. The seal broke with a hiss of pressurized air, and the round door swung outward.
A drenched, bloodied hand gripped the frame. Naomi pulled herself up through the hatch, collapsing onto the non-slip rubber floor of the capsule. Her gray maid's dress was torn to shreds, blackened with oil and salt, but her eyes were alert and clear.
"Naomi!" Clara threw her arms around the soaked woman, sobbing into her cold shoulder.
Naomi didn't pull away. She allowed the girl to hold her, placing a gentle, protective hand on the back of Clara's head. "I told you. I keep my promises."
Ethan let out a breath he felt like he had been holding for days, slumping against the padded wall. "Marcus is gone. Vanessa is dead. The rig is at the bottom of the sea. Is it over, Naomi?"
Naomi reached into the waterproof inner pocket of her torn uniform. She pulled out a small, metallic data drive—the one she had copied from Marcus's terminal before activating Julian Whitmore's self-destruct protocol.
She plugged the drive into the capsule's auxiliary navigation terminal.
The screen flickered to life. Lines of encrypted military-grade code dissolved into a series of live dossiers, high-level bank transactions, and active satellite coordinates across the globe.
"It wasn't just Marcus," Naomi said, her voice turning grave. "Marcus was an accountant. A regional asset. He was laundering billions for an international entity calling itself the Iron Directorate."
"And Julian?" Ethan asked, leaning closer to the glowing screen. "What was my father's role in this?"

Naomi opened the deepest encrypted file on the drive. A video log appeared, labeled with Julian Whitmore's personal clearance code. But beneath Julian's name was a secondary author tag that made Ethan's blood run cold.
