Chapter 104 - The Subterranean Vault

The descent into the lower levels of Whitmore House was a journey into another century. Beneath the Georgian architecture lay a network of reinforced concrete bunkers built during the height of the Cold War, retrofitted by the Sterling patriarchs with modern fiber-optic uplinks and biometric vaults.

Naomi led the way, weapon drawn, flashlight cutting through the stale, chilled subterranean air. Vanessa followed closely behind, clutching a discarded sidearm, her footsteps echoing nervously on the grated stairs.

"What do you mean, he's uploading it?" Vanessa whispered. "My father founded the charities, the foundations... he protected our family!"

"Your family made their fortune providing the biological raw material for Generation Nine," Naomi said, never breaking her forward stride, scanning every alcove and intersection. "Where do you think hundreds of identical orphan girls with rare blood markers came from? The Sterling Foundation wasn't an adoption agency, Vanessa. It was a harvest network."

Vanessa stopped in her tracks, breathing heavily. "No. That's impossible. I would have known—"

"You were shielded because you were the legitimate heir, the pristine face for high society," Naomi turned, illuminating Vanessa with the edge of her tactical flashlight. "The rest of us were the dirty secret kept in the cellar. And now your father is down here, preparing to sell the activation keys to the highest bidder on the dark exchange."

At the end of the corridor, heavy titanium blast doors stood slightly ajar, warm amber light spilling across the concrete floor. Inside, the rhythmic clicking of high-speed servers hummed against the ambient hum of industrial cooling fans.

Naomi raised her hand, signaling Vanessa to freeze.

Through the crack in the door, a figure could be seen standing before a massive cylindrical terminal. It was Arthur Sterling. He wore an immaculate tailored three-piece suit, his silver hair neatly combed, completely unaffected by the slaughter unfolding in the estate above.

"I knew you would make it this far, Unit 09," Arthur said, without turning around. His voice was piped through the room’s intercom speakers, crisp and aristocratic. "You always were my most resilient investment."
