Chapter 8 - The Unwelcome Invasion

Naomi set her coffee mug down on the table with clinical precision, her posture shifting instantly from relaxed to hyper-aware. Her eyes scanned the room for potential exits and improvised tactical advantages.
"Stay here," Naomi instructed Ethan in a low, authoritative tone that brooked no argument.
Before Ethan could protest, Naomi stepped out of the sunroom and walked briskly down the hallway toward the grand foyer.
As she rounded the corner into the marbled entrance hall, she saw three federal marshals accompanied by Judge Sterling pushing past the estate’s private security guards. Judge Sterling looked flushed with vindictive triumph, holding a thick manila folder in his hand.
"Mr. Whitmore!" Judge Sterling barked loudly as Ethan stepped out behind Naomi. "I hope you realize what kind of dangerous criminal you've been harboring under your roof!"
Ethan stepped forward, shielding Naomi slightly with his shoulder. "What is the meaning of this intrusion, Judge Sterling? You are trespassing on private property."
"Trespassing?" The judge let out a harsh, mocking laugh. He tossed the manila folder onto the mahogany console table. "Take a look at those files, Ethan! Your precious little maid isn't a domestic worker at all. Her real name is Naomi Reyes. Former elite security operative under Margaret Hale. Discharged under classified circumstances following an unsanctioned, violent combat incident in Philadelphia five years ago!"
The foyer fell into absolute, stunned silence.

Ethan slowly turned his head to look at Naomi, shock flickering across his hazel eyes—not because she was dangerous, but because of the sheer weight of the secrets she had been carrying.
Naomi didn't flinch. She stepped forward past Ethan, her expression completely devoid of fear, radiating the calm, terrifying aura of a apex predator who had finally been cornered into the open.
